The 2022 NBA offseason has been an eventful one for the Phoenix Suns even if they haven’t made many major changes to their roster. The biggest loss they suffered in free agency was losing JaVale McGee to the Dallas Mavericks, as he has already been named their starting center.
Frank Kaminsky was the only other player from last season’s roster to depart this offseason. Damion Lee and Josh Okogie are the additions that were made from outside the team, as they were signed away from the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively.
The biggest move that the Suns made was matching the offer sheet that Deandre Ayton signed with the Indiana Pacers. It was the largest offer sheet in NBA history, as Ayton’s representatives told the Suns he could find a max contract and that is exactly what happened.
That decision effectively ended the team’s pursuit of Kevin Durant. Phoenix was reportedly the No. 1 option for Durant on his list of preferred landing spots and the feeling was mutual as the Suns pursued him. Alas, the asking price was too high and Durant eventually rescinded his trade request, instead deciding to continue his partnership with the Nets.
