Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Whether this deal compares favorably to the Gobert deal depends on your view of OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr.
After all, the Jazz are receiving the same number of first-round picks in this trade as they did for Gobert. On the other hand, none of Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, or Walker Kessler have as much value as either of the young players they’re getting this time around.
Anunoby is one of the best 3-and-D wings in the NBA at 25. Some suggest he’s got hidden layers to his game – he’s more valuable than any of the players the Jazz received for Gobert regardless.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Trent Jr. likely is too. He’s a similarly 3-and-D oriented player, but he’s also distinctly young enough to be part of a long-term rebuilding plan.

Still, the most important part of this deal from the Jazz’s perspective is the draft capital.
If Anunoby and Trent Jr. are just icing on that cake, it makes for a pretty sweet one.
