Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, but it feels a bit wrong to apply that to NBA players. How about this? One team’s upgrade is another team’s upgrade, as well.
The Heat, in simple terms, are flipping the worst player in this trade for the second-best one. Duncan Robinson was virtually unplayable in the 2021-22 playoffs due to his defensive limitations. Moving him for Harrison Barnes is a coup for Miami.
It’s especially convenient that they have a vacancy at his position. Granted, Barnes won’t be a perfect substitute for the departed P.J. Tucker. Still, he’ll be a more than sufficient one.
In fact, he’ll be an upgrade in some respects. Barnes isn’t as relentless a defensive presence as Tucker, but he’s roughly equal as a floor-spacer and a superior shot creator to boot.
