Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Cam Thomas
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F/C Naz Reid
Consider this one a marriage of convenience.
Cam Thomas has a higher ceiling than Naz Reid. He made that clear in his 2020-21 rookie season. At the same time, he feels unlikely to reach it on the contending Brooklyn Nets – they’re unlikely to have the bandwidth to allow him to explore his deep shot-creation bag any time soon.
On the other hand, the Minnesota Timberwolves may not have much room left for Reid after landing Rudy Gobert this summer. Sure, they can co-exist for spells, but as a drop-coverage rim protector, Reid is most likely maximized at the 5.
Meanwhile, as a floor-spacer, he should be the perfect complement for Simmons. Giving up on Thomas to land a likely long-term role player may sting, but the Nets need to be focused on the present at the moment.

With that in mind, this trade should work for the Nets – unless, of course, they’re looking to get rid of Simmons altogether.
