Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Clint Capela, F/C John Collins
For one side, this deal is all about functionality. For the other, it’s about pure upside.
If you couldn’t guess, the Nets are the former team. A starting group of Capela, Collins, Durant, Curry, and Irving just makes sense. The spacing around Capela is pristine, and his abilities as a pick-and-roll finisher should make for a streamlined pick-and-spread attack here.
On the other hand, the Atlanta Hawks are taking extra steps to compensate for Trae Young’s defensive limitations. They already took one measure in that direction this summer, acquiring Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.
Best of all, this deal shouldn’t compromise their interior defense much either. Onyeka Onkongwu looks ready to replace Capela at a moment’s notice – if not exceed his production altogether.

Still, with Durant and Irving on the roster, Capela should provide more than enough rim protection for the Nets. Adding Collins in addition should make them a serious contender for the NBA title in 2022-23.
