Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
It seems widely understood that the Nets won’t be taking traditional “tanking” measures this summer. With this proposal, we’re essentially calling their bluff.
Unlike the Nets, this deal would make them one of the deepest teams in the NBA.
Let’s assume the Nets keep Kyrie Irving. That assumption feels surprisingly plausible. Irving’s antics over recent years have depressed his trade value. If the Nets are this strictly married to being a win-now team, they won’t take a loss for Irving.
Now, assume Irving is willing to play throughout the year. That’s less likely, but for argument’s sake, entertain us. While we’re taking leaps of faith, assume Ben Simmons and healthy and ready to go as well.
