Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
The Cavaliers, as we’ve indicated, don’t seem to be using Sexton. Why not get something for him?
This deal accomplishes exactly that. Their return here may not be massive, but it represents actual value. Given the apparent market for Sexton, that might be the best they can do.
Furthermore, the Cavs enjoyed success in 2021-22 without Sexton. Arguably, they’re better off moving forward without him. Adding him back into their mix, as talented as he is, could come at the expense of developing chemistry.
With that context in mind, this could be a case of addition by subtraction. If so, adding a first-round pick for Sexton is an opportunity this organization can’t afford to miss out on.
