How This Deal Impacts Portland
The Portland Trail Blazers are all-in on building around Damian Lillard. For better or for worse, they are going to be linked for the foreseeable future as the contract extension that Lillard signed this offseason locks him into his contract through his mid-30s.
This offseason the front office has done a good job of elevating the roster around him, adding more players capable of making an impact defensively. Alas, there is still plenty of work to do for Portland to become true contenders.
Acquiring a battle-tested, multi-time champion such as Draymond Green would be another step in the right direction. Green is someone that Lillard was reportedly obsessed with bringing to the team for a while. It is easy to see why as he would provide the team with leadership and an ace defensively to lean on.
While Green leaves something to be desired at times offensively, as he was benched during the Warriors’ recent championship run at one point, he is still one of the best in the business defensively. He is extremely versatile and would fit in well in Portland.

To acquire him, the Trail Blazers would part ways with Josh Hart, Nasir Little and Justise Winslow to match salary. They would also include a first-round pick in 2025 to sweeten the deal to acquire Green.
He would be the second player poached from the champion Warriors, as Portland also signed Gary Payton II away from them in free agency.
