Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Before we talk about Ben Simmons’ fit with the Los Angeles Lakers, let’s talk about his NBA future. As a non-shooting ball-handler, he’s likely to have fit issues on any team he lands on.
It appears as if the book is out on Simmons. If he’s got the ball, pack the paint. Daring Simmons to shoot limits his ability to create in halfcourt sets.
If Simmons is going to continue to advance in his NBA career, he may need to change his game. Realistically, he could look to Russell Westbrook as a cautionary tale. Without changes, his inability to shoot will catch up to him if it hasn’t already.
With that said, Simmons could thrive as a finisher in the pick-and-roll in half-court sets.

It would be easier for him to function as an off-ball player if he’s unwilling to shoot. His combination of size and mobility would make him a highly effective roll man, screener, and cutter.
Could he improve the Lakers in that capacity?
