Traditionally, talent hasn’t been easy to come by for the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is one of the NBA’s longest-suffering franchises.
Last year offered a glimpse of hope. The Wolves advanced to the postseason, and even gave the Grizzlies a run for their money in the first round. Having acquired Rudy Gobert this summer, they’ve gone all-in on building on that success.
As constructed, the Wolves will be formidable. A core group of Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Anthony Edwards will be highly competitive. With that said, acquiring Irving could push them past “competitive”:
On paper, it would make the Wolves a full-blown superteam.
Of course, there’s risk involved with landing Irving. The possibility that he’ll find a reason to opt against playing looms for whatever team rosters him.
