New York Knicks Receive: F Kevin Durant
Many fans will tell you that the Brooklyn Nets can’t afford to bottom out and rebuild through the draft. After all, they owe either their first-round pick or swap rights to the Houston Rockets through to 2027.
With that logic in mind, it would be senseless for them to accept a pick-heavy package for Durant: Unless, of course, some of the incoming draft capital was theirs to begin with.
This trade has them receiving the swap rights for two of their picks back from Houston, as well as their 2026 pick back altogether. They’re also getting five first-rounders back from the New York Knicks. In the aggregate, that’s a historic haul of draft capital.
Of course, the Rockets’ involvement here will be contingent on their interest in Barrett. Opinions on him seem to vary. With that said, he’s on this team’s rebuilding timeline. If they like what they see from him, they may be willing to part with some draft capital to add him. Both of New York’s teams ought to hope so.
