Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
The Cleveland Cavaliers make this trade if they feel they’re ready to take the next step. Their rebuild will be officially done following this deal – anything short of a playoff appearance will be disappointing in 2022-23 following this trade.
With that said, they’d almost certainly make one. Some will point to the undersized guard combination of Garland and Mitchell as cause for concern. On most teams, they’d have a point.
The Cavaliers are not most teams. They ran a triple tower combination of Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and Lauri Markkannen in their frontcourt last season. Whether they continue on with that look or find a more traditional 3, the Allen/Mobley duo should cover for any limitations that the backcourt may face.
In the meantime, they’ll be lethal on offense. Garland is a capable scorer with elite floor vision. On the other hand, Mitchell is an elite scorer with capable floor vision. All told, there’s a symbiosis between these two that ought to propel the Cavaliers into the playoffs.
