Charlotte Hornets Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
One goal that the Charlotte Hornets had coming into the offseason was to slash some salary. They have a few young players eligible for extensions and if they wanted to keep them, moving some veterans on multi-team deals was necessary. However, those plans may have changed a little given the Miles Bridges situation.
With that in mind, the Hornets can go all-in on acquiring a player such as Donovan Mitchell, who is locked into a long-term deal. However, they do need to match salary and that could present some issues.
The Jazz want to keep their salary cap as clean as possible in the future. Adding long-term salary, such as in this scenario, could be a non-starter. But, the Hornets make it as worthwhile as possible with the other piece involved.
James Bouknight and Kai Jones are recent first-round picks that haven’t been able to break into the Hornets’ rotation. For the rebuilding Jazz, they would have a chance to get some playing time. But, the draft capital is what will really entice them.
