Los Angeles Lakers
As the old saying goes, don’t fix what isn’t broken. For Carmelo Anthony and the Los Angeles Lakers, running things back for a second season would make a lot of sense. As one of the only bright spots from last season, the Lakers would welcome Anthony back with open arms.
The Lakers can provide Anthony with a specific role for him to excel in once again. He would come off the bench, anchoring the second unit as their go-to scoring option. With Malik Monk no longer in the mix, there could even be a few more shot attempts up for grabs for Anthony.
Depending on how the remainder of the offseason shakes out for Los Angeles, they could really need Anthony. If they are unable to find a trade partner for Russell Westbrook, it is one less opportunity for them to fill out the rotation. Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn have also been mentioned as trade candidates, but none of the hypothetical return packages would fill Anthony’s role from last season.
The Los Angeles Lakers addressed the wing and center positions in free agency, bringing on younger shooting guards and small forwards that can shoot 3-pointers and play some defense. There is a rather sizable hole on the depth chart at power forward behind Anthony Davis and counting on him to be healthy the entire season is risky.

Anthony can once again assume that role, playing the same number of minutes this upcoming season as he did last season. He would probably love another crack at contending with his buddy LeBron James as well.
