New York Knicks

Things didn’t end on a high note when Carmelo Anthony was traded by the New York Knicks in 2017. The media was all over him throughout his tenure and by the end of things, the front office, led by Phil Jackson, didn’t see eye-to-eye with him.

But, that regime is now gone, replaced by Leon Rose and Scott Perry. There have been some discussions about a reunion taking place to finish out his career and that could still be in the cards.

But, the only realistic way that Anthony would be able to join the New York Knicks is if they pull off a blockbuster trade. If Donovan Mitchell ends up a Knick, they will need to sign some veterans to round out the depth chart.

If Julius Randle is moved as part of that deal, or Obi Toppin, minutes will then open up at the power forward spot that he could soak up.

The focus will still be on the young players on the team, but if the Knicks do acquire Mitchell, they will be looking to win games. Anthony would help them accomplish that as a veteran presence off the bench that knows how to handle New York and isn’t afraid of the spotlight.

Off the court, the New York Knicks are also a draw for Anthony. His son, Kiyan, plays high school basketball at Christ the King in Queens. Being closer and getting to watch him play regularly as he embarks on his own basketball journey is something that very well could appeal to Melo at this stage of his career.
