Sometimes, protected picks can be amusing. This is one of those cases. 

The odds of the Heat’s 2023 pick landing in the top 5 are almost non-existent. One might go so far as to question why they’d even bother protecting it.

After all, they’re basically just sending the Jazz their pick altogether. 

Essentially, the Heat are protecting themselves against disaster. A lot would have to go wrong for this pick to stay in Miami. Realistically, early season injuries to both Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Otherwise, the Heat will be simply too talented to fail. With that in mind, it’s more likely that this pick will fall in the 25 to 30 range for the Jazz.
