Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal

The Washington Wizards are interesting in improving their depth here. They’re getting two quality NBA players for the cost of one, plus a rookie and a pick.

We’re assuming that the Wizards have no interest in tanking. Their recent, massive commitment to Bradley Beal surely suggests as much.

If that’s the case, upgrading the roster would be prudent. Again, we recognize that Porzingis has the most name value in this trade. At this point, Turner is probably better on his own.

Add an elite floor-spacer like Hield, and there’s no question this trade should make the Wizards better in 2022-23. With Turner at the 5, they’ll have five-out spacing on a regular basis.
