The Miami Heat made a splash move last NBA offseason to acquire Kyle Lowry in a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Raptors. He was thought of as being a potential missing piece for the team to take the next step come postseason time but instead struggled mightily.
Lowry averaged 13.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in the regular season for the Heat. Those numbers already weren’t great, but his production dropped to an average of just 7.8 points while shooting 29.1 percent from the floor in the playoffs.
At some point, do the Heat need to consider making a move to add more perimeter firepower? One name that has been surrounded with controversy in the NBA superstar trade circuit is Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets, but he would help in many areas.
Would the Heat consider a trade with the Nest to acquire Lowry? According to Frank Isola, Miami has yet to rule out a Lowry-for-Irving swap.
“From what I’ve heard, Kyrie for Kyle Lowry is not out of the question,” Isola tweeted.
If there is ever a prime opportunity for an NBA team to buy low on Irving, now would unquestionably be the time to do so. He will be seeking a long-term contract next offseason, and after a full season on a trial run created by an expiring contract, the Heat can determine if he’s a fit before committing big money to him.
