Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Kyle Lowry, G Gabe Vincent, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: G Kyrie Irving
Unlike D’Angelo Russell, Kyrie Irving meets anyone’s definition of a star. Unfortunately, he’s been making more headlines off the court than on it for the last several seasons.
Last year, Irving’s refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine hung over the Nets’ entire season. Some would argue that it was the seed of doubt that bloomed into the Nets’ currently catastrophic situation.
After all, James Harden demanded a trade just one year into his Nets career. He’d previously demanded one from the Rockets because he needed a better supporting cast. If Irving won’t take to the floor, he hardly counts as a player on the team from Harden’s perspective. Now, Durant wants out as well.
All of which impacts Irving’s trade value. The Heat would be capitalizing on a buy-low opportunity here. It’s not without its risks: if Irving finds another reason to sit out, they’ve given up assets for no reason.
