Utah Jazz Receive: G Kyle Lowry, G Tyler Herro, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2026 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIA), 2027 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
Remember our preamble about the assets a team needs to land a star player? This deal has the Miami Heat using all of them.
They need Kyle Lowry’s hefty contract to match Donovan Mitchell’s. Meanwhile, they need their young potential star (Herro) and as much draft capital as they can muster to entice Utah.
This might be enough. Here, the Utah Jazz add a player who’s 3-years younger than Mitchell and plays a similar role. They’ll simply plug Herro into Mitchell’s spot, and hope he can come as close to his production as possible.
If he can match it, this is a steal for the Jazz. On the other hand, they’re landing two first-round picks and two swaps to compensate them in the event that he cannot. Those assets will come in handy eventually.
