Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Kyle Lowry, G Tyler Herro
Miami Heat Receive: G Kyrie Irving
Not so long ago, this trade would look a little ridiculous.
That was before Irving’s unreliability really started to surface. We’ve known he was (*ahem*) quirky for a while, but the potential his quirks hold to impact his NBA career is only now becoming evident.
On a pure talent basis, this isn’t a great trade for the Nets. Herro is a young player with some star potential, but he’ll be lucky to ever hold a candle to Irving on the court. Meanwhile, at 36, Lowry’s best days are likely behind him.
In fact, his contract will be viewed as a net negative if he doesn’t have a bounceback year in 2022-23.
