Sign A Veteran Point Guard
This move is, of course, closely related to the last move. Still, no matter what happens with Westbrook, signing a veteran point guard would be a good decision for this team.
Sure, the Lakers still have Kendrick Nunn. He’s a capable backup. They’d still benefit from a stronger platoon in any event.
If they trade Westbrook for another point guard, having a third-string insurance policy for the oft-injured Nunn would be sensible. If they trade Westbrook for a player at a different position, Nunn may be starting. In that event, they’ll need a new backup floor general.
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Nunn is averaging a mere 3.0 assists per game over his career. Are we completely sure he’s not an undersized off-guard? In any event, it’s hard to feel confident that he’s the be-all, end-all solution for the Lakers.

There are some decent options still available. D.J. Augustine, Facundo Campazzo and Isaiah Thomas are all looking for their next NBA home. Whoever the Lakers decide on, they could use a more experienced player in their point guard rotation in 2022-23.
