1. Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks suffered a huge blow in free agency with Jalen Brunson departing. He ended up agreeing to a deal with the New York Knicks, something that New York could face tampering charges about.
While that may help the Mavericks feel a little better about the situation, at the end of the day, they aren’t getting Brunson back. Replacing him will be tough, as the return of Tim Hardaway Jr. from injury could certainly help. But, there aren’t many options on the roster to take on his role.
Dipping back into free agency and offering a minimum contract to Dennis Schroder would be a good idea for the Dallas Mavericks.
Schroder can replicate the impact that Brunson had alongside Luka Doncic. While their styles differ, they are both score-first lead guards that are capable playmakers.

While the chance to be a lead playmaker won’t exist with Doncic in the Mavericks’ lineup, it was a situation that Brunson made the most of and Schroder would have the opportunity to do in Dallas as well.
Brunson parlayed that production with the Dallas Mavericks into a four-year contract worth more than $100 million from the New York Knicks. That is the kind of deal that Schroder was seeking during free agency in 2021.

While he may not achieve that, stepping into Brunson’s role could certainly be fruitful down the line for him. The chance to play a prominent role for a contending team is an ideal situation to land in.
