Surely, the Indiana Pacers would prefer to pry OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors. With that said, they’d underrate Gary Trent Jr. at their own peril.

Trent Jr. shares Anunoby’s 3-and-D skillset. It just happens to come in a slightly smaller package. As far as guards who fit that archetype go, Trent Jr. is one of the best in the NBA.

He would be the primary asset the Pacers are receiving here. That pick swap is unlikely to convey. If the Raptors aren’t better than the Pacers in 2022-23, something has gone horribly wrong.

With that said: something could go horribly wrong. Trent Jr. is 23. Given his value, he’s a solid return for Turner in his own right for a team in Indiana’s situation.

Still, picking up a lottery ticket in the process of acquiring him is an added bonus for the organization. With that said, if the Pacers are more concerned with picks than players, the Raptors may be able to accommodate them in that case as well.
