Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
The Brooklyn Nets do this deal out of desperation. There’s no way around that.
If the relationship between Irving and the organization is damaged beyond repair, the Nets will need to pivot. Consider this the “better than nothing” package.
With that said, it certainly is better than nothing. If Randle can harken back to 2020-21 and regain his All-NBA form, the Nets could be competitive following this deal. A core of Durant, Randle, and Simmons should be effective if Randle is connecting from deep on a consistent basis again.
Meanwhile, Derrick Rose is no mere throw-in either. He’ll replicate a portion of Irving’s production. All told, the Nets could still be deep and talented enough to contend for an NBA championship in 2022-23 following this deal.
