Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Gordon Hayward, G Terry Rozier
Charlotte Hornets Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Kyrie Irving
It’s looking increasingly likely that Kyrie Irving’s time in Brooklyn will end in an unceremonious fashion.
Recently, it’s been reported that Irving has been granted permission to seek his own sign-and-trade. It feels unlikely that the Nets will receive fair value for the divisive point guard. By now, he’s the definition of a distressed asset.
Everybody knows that Irving can be a problem. The word is officially out on him: the acquisition of Irving is a risk. It seems that every team he joins eventually falls apart.
On the other hand, the Lakers may be more inclined to take a risk on him than most. After all, Irving’s best years came alongside current Lakers superstar LeBron James. Furthermore, even with his off-court troubles, it’s likely that Irving is a better bet for this team than Russell Westbrook’s on-court woes.

Meanwhile, the Nets get a couple of talented rotation players. It may or may not be enough for them to contend in 2022-23. If it isn’t, nobody should be shocked if Kevin Durant is the next star to request a trade.
