Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Rudy Gobert
This swap allows the Utah Jazz to hedge their bets. It should make sense for them whether or not they’re keeping Donovan Mitchell.
If they are, Simmons should complement the star scoring guard. He can alleviate some ball-handling duties for him. Furthermore, his outstanding passing vision ought to complement Mitchell’s scorer instinct. If he’s open, Simmons will find him.
Meanwhile, this trade finds the Jazz swapping the league’s best rim protector for one of its best perimeter stoppers. It may be a lateral move on defense, but they’ll at least be able to employ some fresh schemes having made this trade.
This deal should benefit the Nets too. They’ve got less of a need for Simmons’ secondary playmaking with electric offensive duo Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the roster. Assuming they retain the two, Rudy Gobert’s elite rim protection will probably do them more favors in 2022-23.
LATEST NBA NEWS AND TRADE RUMORS: Bulls, Hawks, Raptors Teams Most Interested In Jazz Star Rudy Gobert Trade
Of course, that’s a bold assumption. If any team is as plagued by trade rumors as the Nets, it’s the Jazz. If they’re similarly hosting a fire sale this summer, the Jazz will have to look elsewhere to move Gobert.
