The Utah Jazz has their work cut out for them this NBA offseason. They have to remake their coaching staff after Quin Snyder and the organization parted ways earlier this offseason. In addition to that, the roster is going to undergo a lot of work.
The Jazz has fallen short of expectations in recent seasons during the playoffs. They have been unable to advance beyond the second round despite having some of the best records in the regular season.
As a result, it is time to shake things up. The Jazz has two All-Stars that they can use as the centerpiece of a trade package to reshape and reload the roster. However, it takes two to tango, and the Jazz’s options are seemingly limited right now when it comes to making a trade.
Utah has not yet shown a willingness to engage in trade negotiations centered around Donovan Mitchell, which isn’t all too surprising. Despite there being rumors that he will eventually request a trade, he seems to be the likelier All-Star to remain in Salt Lake City.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: 2 Major Trades To Send Utah Jazz Star Rudy Gobert To Atlanta Hawks
To appease him, Rudy Gobert will likely be on the move. There are a number of teams around the league that could use a center this offseason, but there aren’t many teams linked to Gobert just yet. The Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors are the three that have had a legitimate interest.
It is surprising that a team such as the Charlotte Hornets is not mentioned as a landing spot for Gobert, as they desperately need an upgrade in the middle. Out of the three teams mentioned, the Toronto Raptors would seemingly need a center the most. In the postseason, they were severely overmatched on the interior because of their lack of size.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: 2 Major Trades To Send Utah Jazz Star Rudy Gobert To Atlanta Hawks
The Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks have Nikola Vucevic and Clint Capela, respectively, currently holding down the starting center spots. Chicago looking to move on from Vucevic makes some sense, as he hasn’t fit alongside DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine as well as they had hoped. Gobert would be a huge upgrade defensively.
As for the Atlanta Hawks, they need to improve defensively. Rudy Gobert is as good as it gets as a defensive center, but he will not come cheap. Looking to shake things up after bringing everyone back last offseason, general manager Travis Schlenk may be willing to pay the price for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
