Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
This isn’t a no-brainer for the Miami Heat. Losing Tyler Herro is significant. This would be a bet that gaining Jerami Grant would be a worthwhile tradeoff.
It’s worth noting that Grant should fit seamlessly with his group. He’ll be a version of P.J. Tucker that can create his own shot. That’s a major upgrade at the 4 spot.
Essentially, this deal is about giving the team a facelift. The Heat are operating with their usual championship-or-bust mentality here. They didn’t win in 2021-22, ergo, they need to make changes.
They would miss Herro’s from-scratch shot creation, but on the other hand, this deal improves their defense. The Heat could determine that the gap between them as defenders is wider than the gap between them as shot creators.
