The first is that Anthony Davis will not return to his dominant self. Sadly, that is possible. At 29, he wouldn’t be the first big man in NBA history to have his prime cut short by injuries.

The second is that LeBron James is some kind of Irving whisperer. That’s also possible. When they played together in Cleveland, Irving appeared more focused than ever.

Granted, there was no global pandemic at the time. This deal isn’t without its risks for either side. If either of these squads decides they’re better off with the devil they know, nobody could hold that against them.
