Toronto Raptors Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F OG Anunoby, G Gary Trent Jr., 2023 First-Round Pick (PHI)
Of course, we didn’t say there was zero risk factor involved in this proposal.
Ben Simmons is complicated. In all likelihood, any NBA fan can agree with that. It’s his worthiness in relation to those complications that’s up for debate.
When healthy, Simmons is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. It would be fair to say that he’s one of the few players in the NBA who can guard 1-5. He’s also one of the best passers in the entire NBA.
On the other hand, his absolute non-willingness to shoot can pose a problem for his team’s offense. Furthermore, the “when he’s healthy” caveat is a strong one: often, that isn’t the case for Simmons.
Still, if the Raptors are truly committed to stacking playmaking wing/forwards, Simmons certainly fits the bill. With his addition, they’d assemble one of the most unique transition attacks in the history of the league.

Ultimately, this team is probably hoping to forge ahead with Anunoby. They’ve certainly seemed happy with his development so far. Still, if the relationship is damaged beyond repair, any one of these deals would be worth considering for the NBA’s only Canadian franchise.
