Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
The Memphis Grizzlies’ motivation here is obvious. They’re receiving, by far, the best player in this trade.
They’ll miss Dillon Brooks. At the same time, they won’t miss him for long. Grant offers much of the same defensive value, he’s a significantly more reliable floor-spacer, and a better shot creator.
Again, he’s a much better player. Following this deal, the Grizzlies will have remarkable versatility in the frontcourt. Lineups featuring Grant at the 4 alongside Jaren Jackson Jr. at the 5 are as modern as possible.
Meanwhile, groupings with Steven Adams in the middle that bump each of them down a position should also be viable.

All told, the Grizzlies shouldn’t hesitate to make this deal. It makes them a much better team. If Grant has reservations about his role, they’re likely to be alleviated when these Grizzlies start winning games.
This is a no-brainer for Memphis. On the other hand, how will Detroit feel about this deal?
