The Toronto Raptors are at something of a fork in the road. In the 2021-22 NBA season, they won 48 games and got eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. It was the type of season that could justify a number of directions.
That’s doubly true when you look at the construction of this team. Arguably, its most important player is 20-year-old Scottie Barnes. Rebuilding around the reigning Rookie of the Year would be sensible. Alternatively, this team has a strong enough base of veterans to justify making win-now moves.
One of those veterans is 28-year-old Pascal Siakam. His game bears a striking resemblance to Barnes’. They’re both two-way wings with outstanding playmaking skills.
Could the Raptors decide those redundancies are enough to justify moving on from the older of the two players?

If we were placing bets, the answer is no. The Raptors have always felt like a team that values continuity. The safer money is on them tinkering with this roster without moving its core pieces.
