Chicago Bulls Receive: C/F Kevin Love, G Collin Sexton
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G/F DeMar DeRozan
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: C/F Anthony Davis
This deal probably only works for the Bulls if they’ve lost Zach LaVine in free agency. In that event, swapping the aging DeRozan for Collin Sexton is a prudent decision.
Meanwhile, the fit between Westbrook, DeRozan, and James is tenuous at best. Many will question the wisdom of this move for the Lakers. If Westbrook’s deficiency in floor-spacing was an issue alongside James, why would adding DeRozan help anything?
Well, the Lakers bet on talent last summer. This deal finds them doubling down. There’s a school of thought that says “great players figure it out”. This trade would take that philosophy to its extreme.
If the Lakers want to run that test, this deal will suit them. On the other hand, maybe they’d finally like to take fit into account when constructing their roster.
