Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Collin Sexton, F Lauri Markannen
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: C/F Anthony Davis
This deal would be palatable to the Lakers on one condition: they’re unable to find any value for Russell Westbrook.
Of course, that condition feels like a likelihood. If the Lakers can’t get a win-now upgrade for the polarizing point guard, moving Davis for players that fit alongside him may be a best-case scenario for this squad.
Luckily, Markannen is a perfect fit alongside Westbrook. His need to play with stretch bigs is well documented, and Markannen is one of the most reliable in the NBA. Sexton also provides the Lakers with a secondary ball-handler to pair with Russ, and a player who spaces the floor for him at the same time.
Meanwhile, it’s worth exploring the fit between Davis and the Cavs. Arguably, it’s not the cleanest. On the other hand, he’s consistent with their “big ball” philosophy. Realistically, this deal would have Evan Mobley playing the 3. If that sounds absurd, consider that Markannen filled that position for the Cavs last season.
