Houston Rockets Receive: F/C Dario Saric, G Danny Green, 2024 First-Round Pick (Lottery Protected)
Phoenix Suns Receive: G Eric Gordon
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Landry Shamet
If the Houston Rockets aren’t interested in taking on the long-term salary that’s required by taking a trade package including Landry Shamet, there is another option.
The Rockets could instead take on Cameron Payne, who is set to earn only $6.0 million during the upcoming season and is signed through the 2023-24 season. He makes less and is signed for half the length of Shamet’s contract.
However, instead of sending Payne in a trade, the Suns could involve a third team with some motivation to acquire a combo guard like Shamet. Could the Philadelphia 76ers be an ideal third team to include in a trade for this reason?
Danny Green suffered a torn ACL in the playoffs and will be sidelined for much (if not all) of the 2022-23 season. He’s also signed to a $10.0 fully non-guaranteed salary that could be sent to the Rockets in part of this trade to ultimately be waived.

There would still be the need for the Rockets to take on Saric’s contract. The ultimate outcome from this trade for Houston would be a complete clearing of $20.9 million in spending after this season while taking on a future first-round pick.
