Miami Heat Receive: G Eric Gordon
Houston Rockets Receive: G/F Duncan Robinson, 2023 First-Round Pick (Top-8 Protected, Turns Into Two Second-Round Picks If Not Conveyed), 2026 Second-Round Pick (via MIA, Least Favorable from DAL, OKC, PHI)
This hypothetical trade between the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets was put together by Dan Favale over at Bleacher Report. He made one trade for every team that didn’t qualify for the 2022 NBA Finals and came up with this for Miami and Houston.
Targeting a more consistent player on the perimeter such as Eric Gordon makes sense for the Heat. Their offense was sometimes stagnant and downright pitiful whenever Jimmy Butler wasn’t carrying it.
Gordon would provide the team with another player that can score in the halfcourt, creating offense for himself. That isn’t something in Duncan Robinson’s skill set, who still is owed more than $74 million over the next four years.
But, Robinson has two elite seasons of 3-point shooting under his best. Despite having a down 2021-22 season based on his standards, he was still one of the deadliest shooters in the league.

The contract would deter most teams, but Houston is in the early stages of a rebuild. So, acquiring the draft compensation is a good consolation to taking on a contract of that size.
How does this deal impact each team? Let’s take a look at it from both of their perspectives, starting with the Miami Heat.
