Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Zach LaVine
Chicago Bulls Receive: G Tim Hardaway Jr., F/G Reggie Bullock, F/C Maxi Kleber, No. 26 Pick in 2022 NBA Draft, 2025 First-Round Pick
The Dallas Mavericks are in a position they haven’t been since their title run in 2011 when it comes to the luxury tax. That is the last time they went over it and based on how things went this season, it sounds as if they are willing to do so again.
Retaining Jalen Brunson in free agency would push them toward that line, but their insistence on acquiring a second All-Star to pair with Luka Doncic would push them over it. One All-Star they reportedly are considering pursuing is Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls.
LaVine is an unrestricted free agent and because they are capped out, the Mavericks would have to pull off a sign-and-trade deal. Chicago should play ball, as they don’t want to lose LaVine in free agency.
It won’t be cheap, but the Mavericks want to make a splash and this would certainly constitute one. Tim Hardaway Jr., Reggie Bullock, and Maxi Kleber are on their way to the Windy City as part of the deal.

Normally, the No. 26 pick could not be traded by Dallas because they would go consecutive years without one. But, since this trade would be done in free agency, they will send whoever is selected over to Chicago along with a first-round pick in 2025, the next one Dallas can convey.
How does this deal impact both teams? Let’s take a look at it from each of their perspectives, starting with the Mavericks.
