With this trade, the Heat officially push all of their chips into the present. They’re trading their two best young players in exchange for an aging superstar.

When that aging superstar is one of the 15 or so best players to ever lace up a pair of basketball shoes, it’s a course of action you at least consider.

The Heat could be forgiven for thinking they could replace Adebayo and Herro. At least, they’d probably be more comfortable doing so if they were making room for Kevin Durant.

With some additional, smaller offseason acquisitions, this trade could make the Heat NBA championship favorites in 2022-23.
