Bad Landing Spot: Sacramento Kings

There have been a lot of reports of the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks possibly working out a deal centered around the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft that the Kings own. Looking to snap their 16-year playoff drought, Sacramento is reportedly open to moving it for an established player.

Julius Randle would certainly suffice as an established player. But, for Randle, the Kings wouldn’t be the best landing spot. For starters, his fit alongside Domantas Sabonis could be an issue.

Neither big man is revered for his defense, which could lead to issues for an already defensively challenged Kings team. De’Aaron Fox also isn’t a strong defensive player, so the Kings would be hoping Mike Brown can work his magic enough to get things turned around despite the personnel.

There is a good chance that Harrison Barnes would also be included in the deal, which would cripple their already below-average floor spacing. A lineup with De’Aaron Fox, Davion Mitchell, Randle and Sabonis would struggle mightily when it comes to spacing as none are great 3-point shooters.

The Kings also have Richaun Holmes still on the roster, creating a logjam in the frontcourt. Like many players before him, Randle could be stuck in basketball purgatory playing for the Kings.
