1. Malcolm Brogdon

The point guard position is likely the biggest need for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason. While not everything was his fault, Russell Westbrook is not a good fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They tried it out and it is time to end that experiment.

One player that would be an excellent fit is Malcolm Brogdon. Like Gordon Hayward, injuries are a major concern for him. Brogdon has missed at least 16 games every season of his NBA career except as a rookie.

While certainly not ideal, as Los Angeles already has an injury-prone Davis they are relying on, Malcolm Brogdon is another perfect fit x’s and o’s wise on the court. He is just as capable of running the show as the lead ball-handler and playmaker he is playing off the ball, something that could not be said of Westbrook.

Another area that he would present a huge upgrade in is defensively. Malcolm Brogdon can more than hold his own against players at both backcourt spots and with his 6’11” wingspan can defend some wing players as well.

Depending on what the Lakers are willing to give up in this deal, they could also try and acquire Buddy Hield as a package along with him. Hield is someone the Lakers nearly acquired last offseason from the Sacramento Kings before pivoting to acquire Westbrook from the Washington Wizards.

An elite, high-volume 3-point shooter, Hield would have a field day playing alongside James and Davis with all of the open 3-point attempts he would pile up.
