New York Knicks Receive: F Harrison Barnes, G Justin Holiday, G Davion Mitchell, No. 37 Pick in 2022 NBA Draft
Sacramento Kings Receive: F Julius Randle

This scenario could be looked at as a salary dump for the New York Knicks. Only one player they are receiving in return is under contract beyond 2023, which is why the only draft compensation that is being included is the No. 37 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

New York can push for a first-round pick, which they may be able to convince the Sacramento Kings of doing. But, the Kings could counter and say that Davion Mitchell, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, basically counts as a first-round pick.

Mitchell is a tenacious defender, which will endear him to Tom Thibodeau. He needs to improve his efficiency and 3-point shooting, but there is a lot to work with. Desperate for a long-term answer at the point guard position, Mitchell could fill that need.

Harrison Barnes and Justin Holiday will help as two-way players. Barnes would slide into the starting power forward spot, providing spacing in the starting five along with Evan Fournier.

Barnes can also slide down to the small forward spot. Holiday provides another long-range shooter that can play a role off the bench.

New York needs to provide RJ Barrett with as many shooters around him as possible and they add two in this scenario. Barnes and Holiday are also both strong defenders, getting the team closer to the roster construction they had for the 2020-21 season when they found a lot of success.

This deal provides Leon Rose with even more tradable assets and flexibility on the roster. Barnes and Holiday provide some insurance in case other deals are made or can fetch the organization more assets themselves as they can be flipped as expiring contracts.
