In this hypothetical trade, the New York Knicks finally address their long-standing need at the point guard position. But, it does not come cheap, as they have to part with some of the assets that they have accumulated.
At 24-years old, De’Aaron Fox fits perfectly into the timeline that the Knicks should be on, as he is three years younger than Julius Randle. Fox is only one season removed from averaging 25.2 points and 7.2 assists per game.
He has some shortcomings as a defender and perimeter shooter, but his quickness and athleticism would fit the game plan that the Knicks should be deploying with their high flying, athletic young players who excel in the open court.
If there is any coach that can get the most out of Fox on the defensive end, it is Tom Thibodeau. His system has worked no matter who has been on the court for the Knicks the last two seasons.

Randle doesn’t make as much money as Fox does, so Cam Reddish is also included in the deal as a sweetener. Reddish hasn’t lived up to his lofty draft position yet but has prototypical two-way size on the wing. Sacramento needs to upgrade their defense and Reddish, in theory, should help.
New York sweetens the deal by including a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft via the Dallas Mavericks. That should provide the Kings with enough assets to feel comfortable moving on from Fox, the longest-tenured player on the team.
