Portland Trail Blazers Receive: F Jerami Grant
Detroit Pistons Receive: G Eric Bledsoe, G Keon Johnson, No. 7 Overall Pick
As disappointing as that was, it doesn’t mark the end of the world or Damian Lillard’s tenure in Rip City. The Portland Trail Blazers still have a top-75 player of all time, a promising young tandem in Anfernee Simons and Nassir Little, and a top-seven selection to build a contender.
Some have suggested that the Blazers trade their 2022 first-rounder in exchange for immediate help for Dame. For example, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley proposed the above trade be conducted before draft day.
This trade presents Dame and the Trail Blazers with a more surefire and immediate contributor in Jerami Grant. With Lillard in his 30s and coming off of an injury, he and Portland have little time to spare for a rookie to come into his own.
Trading the pick away for a more established player makes much more sense considering the seconds quickly winding down on the remainder of Dame Time in Rip City.
The Detroit Pistons should be looking to rebuild around Cade Cunningham, and Jerami Grant is both too old and too cemented in his place in the NBA’s hierarchy to be the sidekick that the Piston’s new franchise cornerstone needs.

Instead, General Manager Troy Weaver — who is tighter with Grant than most GMs are with their players — needs to find a new home for Grant, one that will send back a sizable return for his services but also suits Jerami’s desires.
Let’s look at the case for this NBA trade scenario involving the Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers.
