Heading into the 2022 NBA trade deadline, one of the most popular names in rumors was Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant. Grant ended up not being traded, but his name will be mentioned in rumors once again this offseason as teams look to upgrade their roster via trades.
Grant bet on himself in free agency in 2020, leaving the Denver Nuggets for the Pistons. It was a big risk, as Grant was passing up some stability with the Nuggets to showcase that he can be more than a high-level role player.
The bet has paid off, as Grant has done well in two seasons in the Motor City. He has averaged 20.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.1 blocks in 33 minutes per game. Grant is more than capable of carrying the offensive load and it is something he hopes to continue doing.
His efficiency has dropped in Detroit, but that can be attributed to having an underwhelming supporting cast and sometimes being the sole offensive creator on the court. The efficiency would likely improve with a better supporting cast next to him.

Grant’s versatility is also something that teams like a lot. He can defend multiple positions defensively and provide some small-ball center minutes. Being able to play alongside any kind of player helps.
