Why The Trade Benefits The Denver Nuggets
The Western Conference is difficult and not getting any easier. The Denver Nuggets know this firsthand and are part of a group of teams that could win a title year in the near future.
Denver had great expectations coming into the season once again, but they fell in disappointing fashion for yet another season. Missing both Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. was a big downfall for the Nuggets in the playoffs, but those were not the only reasons.
The duo of Nikola Jokic and Murray is one of the best in the league and they can finish it off with a third piece if a deal is made. There are not many teams that can keep their superstar duo together and get a player like Beal. The Nuggets are set up well with draft picks and talent that can be packaged together for a deal.
That is exactly what is happening here. Porter Jr. signed an extension and was viewed as a piece for the future. His recent string of back injuries could put that plan on hold and have Denver looking for a trade partner. For Washington, a deal for Beal would be nearly impossible to get done if Porter Jr. is not involved.
