Making the Case: New York Knicks
At this point, if the New York Knicks are able to acquire a point guard to pair with RJ Barrett or Obi Toppin, it is a huge win.
The contract of Julius Randle is looking miserable after just one season. New York made the emotional decision to give Randle a contract after what was a career year last season. Now, it is a contract that will be difficult to unload, but New York should be looking for a trade partner.
Toppin and Immanuel Quickley played big minutes at the end of the season once the team was eliminated. Thibodeau finally let the young guys have a chance and they showed up right away.
Barrett looks like a future star but has to gain a bit more consistency on the offensive end. All of this can happen if the Knicks acquire a point guard to take some pressure away.

If Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is acquired, the back-court depth with Quickley coming off the bench would be tremendous. He has proven that he is a scoring point guard, averaging 24.5 points per game, who can also set his teammates up in a position to be successful. Gilgeous-Alexander continues to improve as a passer, averaging 5.9 assists per contest.
A young point guard who has a proven track record in the league is something that could give them a solid option at the top of the offense for years to come.
