The New York Knicks need a point guard. This is not breaking news but it is something that should be shouted from the rooftops until it happens. Could they take a look at making a huge NBA offseason trade to acquire Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Oklahoma City Thunder?
Last season was a fluke. The Knicks quickly showed that they are not the team that finished fourth in the Eastern Conference a season ago. Instead, New York opted for more offense and sacrificed ability on the defensive end of the floor, which is where they won games last season.
In free agency, New York added players like Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier. They watched as the likes of Reggie Bullock signed elsewhere and that impacted the team defensively. Tom Thibodeau is a defensive coach and was unable to get the most out of his personnel this time around.
This offseason, the front office needs to be aggressive once again in order to build a winner in New York. This seems like an impossible task, but a point guard would go a long way.
