How This Trade Impacts Los Angels Lakers

It is very unlikely that the Los Angeles Lakers will trade Anthony Davis this offseason. Pairing him with LeBron James is likely their best chance at competing. However, there are some reasons that parting ways with him this offseason would make some sense for the purple and gold.

For starters, they are lengthening their rotation with young, experienced players in this deal. Kevin Huerter is 23-years old and John Collins is 24, yet both have some playoff experience from the last two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks.

Both players are quite productive, as Collins averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and one block in 30.8 minutes per game. Huerter averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 29.6 minutes per game. Both are good floor spacers as well, as Collins knocked down 36.4 percent of his attempts and Huerter connected on 38.9.

That makes both excellent fits alongside LeBron James and Russell Westbrook, who need as much space as possible to attack the basket. They are also solid defenders, something Los Angeles could use more of.

Picking up a 2023 first-round pick provides the Lakers with more ammunition to swing big trades as well. They would now have three picks at their disposal to make a trade, along with Talen Horton-Tucker and Westbrook. They could further expand and upgrade the rotation with those pieces.
