New Orleans Pelicans
Unlike the other two teams listed here, the Pelicans will not be operating as a rebuilding team this summer. Barring a trade request from Zion Williamson, they’ll be aiming to win as many games as possible in 2022-23.
Arguably, that makes the Pelicans the best landing spot for Coby White of all: they’re a young, contending team in need of a point guard.
Devonte’ Graham is probably best suited for reserve duties. Jose Alvarado had an impressive rookie season, but he’s an offensively limited defensive specialist. White isn’t a guaranteed upgrade over either, but he’d have every opportunity to prove himself on this Pelicans team.
Let’s be honest: if he can’t surpass either, his star potential was probably always more hypothetical than tangible. There are rebuilding teams who can offer White a firmer promise of a prominent role. There are no teams besides the Pelicans who are better positioned to offer him one in a winning effort.
